    Understanding CenterPoint Delivery Charges

In Houston, CenterPoint Energy is your Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU). They own the poles and wires, and they deliver the electricity to your home regardless of which retail provider you choose.

CenterPoint charges a fixed monthly fee plus a variable per-kWh rate. These pass-through charges are non-negotiable and apply to every resident. When comparing plans, make sure the advertised rate includes these delivery charges.

Finding the Best Houston Energy Plan

Houston's hot and humid summers mean high AC usage, pushing the average home's consumption well above 1,200 kWh from June through September.

Avoid plans with bill-credit traps that require you to use exactly 1,000 kWh. Instead, look for straightforward fixed-rate plans that offer a consistent price per kilowatt-hour across all usage tiers.

    TDU Delivery Charges

No matter which retail provider you choose, you must pay regulated delivery charges to your local utility. These fees cover grid maintenance and storm restoration.

    CenterPoint Energy~4.99¢ / kWh
    Oncor Electric~4.54¢ / kWh
